Providing follow-up services for donor family members is a vital part of DonorConnect’s mission. The Donor Family Service team, including a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), works closely with donor families to provide follow-up support, referrals to support groups or counselors, and bereavement education materials. We are able to answer any questions that may arise after donation, including questions about the organ and tissue recovery process and the outcome of the donation.
DonorConnect provides several ways in which family members can honor the Gift of Life provided by their loved one. Donor families have the opportunity to have their loved ones name etched on the glass wall of our Celebration of Life Monument. The monument honors those who have selflessly given the gift of life to others. In addition, our donor family newsletter Heart to Heart, provides articles about grief and mourning as well as a tribute page where families can honor their loved one by submitting their name and birth/death date once a year. We also encourage families to send in poems for the newsletter in memory of their loved one. The Donor Family outreach can help families to find meaning and healing through their loved ones donation.
